February Newsletter

There’s been lots happening here at Human. In this month’s instalment, we’re looking at how we can help you to save money when it comes to advertising job vacancies, share an interesting update from the European Court of Human Rights and also a few updates on our BIG Fundraising Challenge. We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter as much as we loved putting it together! Meet your match in support of Rotherham Hospice This year we’ve been lending our support to The Rotherham Hospice’s BIG Fundraising Challenge and after the success of our soup-er Human challenge before Christmas, we have decided to play cupid and spread the love with a brand new matchmaking service! Don’t worry
we’re not adding the dating game to our services! But we are aiming to help businesses meet their perfect match by offering a special discounted package when it comes to advertising job vacancies. We have negotiated a special discounted rate on job advertising, which will see vacancies promoted on several popular jobs boards as well as being promoted via social media for two weeks. The price of the advertising package is just ÂŁ150.00 plus VAT. But hurry, this offer is only available for a limited time. To advertise, please contact us on 01709 717212 or email hello@recruithuman.co.uk: All profits will be donated to the Rotherham Hospice BIG fundraising challenge A recent European Court ruling could have far-reaching implications for both business owners and members of staff when it comes reading private messages sent by employees. Last month the European Court of Human Rights ruled that an employee’s private Yahoo Messenger chats which led to the dismissal of the employee was lawful because the messenger contained both personal and professional contacts. The case which was brought to the courts by an engineer in Romania examined whether an employee had a right to a private life whilst at work, and whether an employer had the right to access messages sent by employees. Judges ruled in favour of the employer and the ruling must now be taken into account when similar cases are heard in the UK courts. The case goes some way to illustrating the importance for businesses to have a clear data usage policy in place and should clearly be communicated to employees. More information about the ruling can be found here (courtesy of the BBC)http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35301148 A truly heartfelt thanks Last month, Human Recruitment turned three and to celebrate, we hosted our birthday breakfast networking event: Health, Wealth and Success – A Kickstart to 2016. The turnout was outstanding and it was great to see business owners and leaders who have supported Human from the very beginning make an appearance, as well as learning how to tackle 2016 head on. Our guest speakers included Fiona Lowe of Westfield Health, Jill Turner of Jill Turner Associates and Julie Robinson of Footprints Accountancy, who spoke about the financial outlook for businesses in 2016 and how to achieve your goals, whether professional or personal, in the coming year. Alongside support from our guest speakers, we also introduced the two charities Human are supporting throughout the year: The Rotherham Hospice and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Once again, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the event and who have offered support, advice and guidance from the birth of Human Recruitment to the present and continuing into the future. These boots were made for walking… We were proud to launch the Hike for the Hospice appeal at the end of January and never one to be phased by a new challenge Amy, our intrepid leader, set up a treadmill in the office and we’ve set our sights on hoping to complete 50 miles by the end of the month – the equivalent of taking part in the gruelling Rotherham Ring Route: a trek along the borders of the Rotherham borough. As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, throughout February Human Recruitment is supporting The Rotherham Hospice as part of its BIG Fundraising Challenge. So far this year we’ve made soup and shared afternoon tea with our neighbours, so we felt for the next mission it was time to burn off a few calories! We’ve already raised over ÂŁ200 for the Hospices’ BIG Fundraising challenge and we would love to give more. If you would like to support the Human team on our Hike for the Hospice challenge, you can donate to our Just Giving page or download a sponsor form. Thanks for reading and have a great February!

Happy Birthday Human!

Three years ago, I had a laptop, a telephone, a spare bedroom and a vision. Today we have Human Recruitment: a business I am very proud not to call mine, but ours. Human was born out of necessity and frustration; I began my business journey after taking redundancy from a great role within a fantastic company. I wanted to apply all of my experience and all of my frustrations with my industry to do things in a different way. Bringing a more Human approach to the recruitment industry hasn’t been straightforward. I have been fortunate in working with numerous individuals which have supported and encouraged me and the business. We are still only a small (but mighty!) team of two – soon to be three – but we work hard, love what we do and do it for the right reasons. My husband and daughter have borne the brunt of my borderline workaholism and supported my rantings about why the recruitment industry  ‘doesn’t have to be like that!’ As a Project Manager who redesigns commercial kitchens, my husband cares little about blind recruiting, interview turnaround time and whether the job board is dead. But he listens, he nods and occasionally questions my rantings and for that I’m grateful. Caroline, our Plate Spinner Extraordinaire joined the business almost a year ago. Like a bubbly, hardworking life jacket she buoyed me up after two years of hard slog which included giving birth to both my business baby and my daughter. Caroline has been instrumental in helping streamline business processes and she has also worked hard to build new relationships with clients and candidates. If you haven’t yet spoken to Caroline, give her a call, you’re missing out! Supporting our growing number of clients and candidates is sole the reason we exist. Put simply, without them we don’t have a business. There are a number of clients we have worked with throughout the past three years and we’re proud to still have only instructed one rebate in the past three years. I can’t say I haven’t lost sleep over that but I’m slowly coming to terms with it! As we celebrate our third anniversary I’d like to thank all of our valued clients and candidates for choosing Human and continuing to provide us with great feedback and for giving us with the opportunity to do what we love. I can’t wait to see what years four, five and six will bring. I’m sure as the business grows and develops those challenges will change, but the unique approach we have developed at Human remains as true today as it did when I fired up that laptop for the very first time. Until then, if you need any support in developing your career or building your team; please give us a call, or pop into and say hello. We’d be happy to help
 and we also have cake!

Five opportunities, Five success stories!

At Human, we understand that finding the right candidate to grow and develop your business is an important decision. We also understand that it can also be a process which is just as daunting for business owners as it is for the eager candidates arriving for their first interview. As recruitment professionals it’s our job to make the process as easy and pain-free as possible, both for business owners looking to fill their vacancies and individuals looking to take the next step on their career ladder.  When those needs match, it can be the beginning of a long and successful relationship; it’s an important decision for all concerned. Earlier this year we were approached by a global medical device manufacturer, which was having difficulty finding skilled candidates for a number of roles in the business. Each role was varied and required very different skills and experiences – ranging from event and exhibition management roles to sales support. Over the course of the year, we helped the company to not only find one skilled candidate but five: All of whom have settled well into their new roles and already forging careers with the business. As the year draws to a close, we thought we’d share some feedback we received from some of those successful candidates: “Human helped to ease the pressure of looking for a new job – it felt like I had someone fighting in my corner and it was refreshing to feel that my needs were being put first. They are professional yet personal: I even received a good luck on your new job card from them. They constantly kept me in the loop and updated: They gave me the perfect start to the newest chapter in my career. It’s a great place to work and I’ve met some great people” – Robert, Event Logistics Co-ordinator “Within a few hours of applying for the role I received a call from Human. They asked me about my work experience, my skills and a little about me. After this they gave me more information about the role and I was intrigued and wanted to find out more, we arranged to meet that same day.” “The ladies at Human contacted me asking how my interview went and just a few hours later I received another call from them saying they would like to offer me the role. I have never been so happy to receive a call!” – Hannah Exhibitions Co-ordinator “A friend of mine told me about Human Recruitment, so I gave them a call, we arranged to meet the following day to go through the registration details. Amy and Caroline have been brilliant throughout. They listened to what was important to me and found me a position that was perfect and only 5 minutes away from home, they kept in touch with me throughout the whole process, made me laugh and made my job search enjoyable. “I would like to say a huge thanks to them for everything!” – Jane, Customer Order Processor All five candidates placed by Human have continued to flourish in their new roles, and perhaps the positive comments we have received illustrates that recruitment isn’t simply about helping a business to fill a vacancy, but perhaps it’s more important to find individuals who can grow and develop in their new roles. If you would like us to help your business to grow, or take the next step on your career ladder, please contact us on 0114 399 0085/ 01709 717212 or email hello@recruithuman.co.uk

Charity begins at Human.

We all have to be Super Human at times and deciding the Who, What, With, Why and When can be a tough choice to make but when the drive/support is passionate throughout the company it’s wonderful to know that you can make a difference with a couple of quid during business hours. As both Amy and I are from South Yorkshire we love getting on with the day job helping both local businesses and candidates achieve their goals but at the same time having the opportunity of supporting local and national causes. From sponsoring the Rotherham Football Sunday League (Human League), running a Macmillan Coffee event raising an amazing £197.04 to our latest venture Soup-er Human, an event we held last week to support Rotherham Hospice. With the help of some amazing people Reece of Urban Pantry Deli in Sheffield, the team of Moorhead Savage (Pauls’ culinary skills showcased in his amazing Minestrone Soup) and Tesco in Rotherham to name but a few, through selling soup, rolls and cakes to occupiers and visitors to the Moorgate Crofts Business Centre we raised £140.00. We have also been proud to be involved with Grimm & Co and falling under their spell to encourage both children’s imagination & writing skills made volunteering to run their recruitment campaign for free an easy decision. We also attended LEAF 2015 which was held at Magna last month, presenting employability skills to teenagers and supporting job seekers find a direction and support in securing work. To close the year of 2015 we are holding Afternoon Tea around the Tree on Monday 14th December again in support of Rotherham Hospice but also, as we are a drop off point for Mission Christmas Cash for Kids this will be the final drop off day for unwrapped gifts for the HallamFM campaign before we magically become Christmas elf’s and deliver the gifts to Alan Ogle and his Super Human team. As mentioned in my previous blog, time really does fly when you are having fun whilst doing a job you can’t wait to get into the office for but also having the opportunity and encouragement to be able to make a difference throughout the community (Miss World quotes finished J) Helping change doesn’t always have to be about giving money, an hour of your time a month or holding a sponsored dog walk all adds up. Stay tuned for more information about this, our February event. I am proud of what we here at Human Recruitment do alongside the day job and long may it continue! If you would like to know more about our Super Human approach or are a charity looking for support with recruitment please contact us: superhumans@recruithuman.co.uk 01709 717212 or 01143 990085
